Getting a dental implant is a big decision, since it’s designed to last the rest of your life. At RNA Dentistry in Los Angeles, Dr. Rozita Nosratabadi will make your dental implant procedure as smooth as possible. She fit you for an implant and crown that’ll blend seamlessly into your smile. You probably won’t even know it’s not your own tooth.

Why would I need a dental implant?

You don’t want to have a gap in your mouth after losing a tooth or having a severe tooth fracture. This can lead to other oral health problems later on down the line. A dental implant can:
Plus, when you have an implant that’s aligned with your other teeth, it’s easier to brush and floss teeth more efficiently. Better home care prevents future decay from occurring.

What is the dental implant procedure like?

During your first visit, Dr. Nosratabadi surgically implants posts below your gums. The post is made from long-lasting titanium. Because the surrounding tissues and bones need time to heal, Dr. Nosratabadi covers the post with a temporary crown. Typically, it takes about 6-12 weeks for the area to heal. During that time, you’ll also wait for your permanent crown to come in from the lab.

After the implanted post bonds to your jawbone, Dr. Nosratabadi connects an abutment to the post to secure the new tooth (during your next visit). Then she permanently bonds the new crown to the abutment and makes any adjustments where necessary to ensure it fits correctly. You might need to come in for one additional appointment, so Dr. Nosratabadi can check to ensure the new tooth is comfortable for you. She can file down any areas that don’t feel quite right or don’t match up perfectly with your bite.

Is it painful to get an implant?

Dental implants are permanent and are fused right into your jawbone. You probably will feel some discomfort, especially with buzzing from the drill. But you shouldn’t be in agonizing pain. Dr. Nosratabadi uses a local anesthetic to numb the area so you don’t feel much. She also can provide laughing gas (nitrous oxide) to help ease your anxiety and make your appointment more comfortable. Many men and women report that getting an implant is less painful than having a tooth extracted.
